Paul Raymond is the alias of Geoffrey Anthony Quinn, who was born on 15th November 1925 in Liverpool, England and raised by his mother in Glossop. He was educated by the Christian Brothers. He regards himself as Irish. He adopted his current name in 1947.
He is an English pornographer, property developer and owner of the Raymond Revuebar strip club and several major English sex magazines such as Razzle and Mayfair. Models featured in his porn magazines have included Joanne Guest, Shanine Linton, Aria Giovanni and Veronica Zemanova. Raymond regularly appears on UK rich lists and is a widely believed to be a billionaire.
Paul Raymond started out by opening the Revuebar in 1957, which continues to the present day (He has sometimes been presented as being the English equivalent of Hugh Hefner or Larry Flynt in the USA, but is quite different in nature, partly due to the more restrictive obscenity laws of the UK. But like them he has contributed to the debate over these laws.
Raymond long ago diversified beyond pornography, and has many millions tied up in property and real estate, most notably in Soho.
He is listed at #62 on the Sunday Times Rich List 2004 and valued at £600 million, although it has been claimed that this is a fraction of his wealth.
Paul Raymond Publications is a British men's soft core pornography publisher which releases seven similar titles each month, Escort, Club International, Just Girls, Mayfair, Men Only, Men's World, and Razzle. It is run by Paul Raymond. Escort is a British men's adult magazine, or softcore magazine, which falls under the description of pornography, or erotica.
By 2007, Escort was in its 27th year, or volume. The content is a combination of photographs and text, with the photographs almost entirely being those of partially or completely nude females. They are photographed in an "American" style, in that their entire body is exposed, genitalia included, also they frequently open their vaginal lips (or labia) to provide a more detailed view of their genital area.
In contrast to the glamorous professional look portrayed by American titles like Playboy and Penthouse, and fellow British titles like Mayfair, Escort specialises in pictures of amateur (i.e. non-professional) models, some of which are sent to the porn magazine by readers - these are affectionately known as "reader's wives". It often features photo-shoots taken in an "ordinary" location like a pub, or outdoors at a place familiar to British readers. Its readership (and the "reader's wives") tend to be drawn from the British working class, making it an interesting expression of working class culture.Escort is published by the Paul Raymond Publications company
